Nicole Ari Parker, an American actor who has been featured in films and on television, and in stage productions, is known for her role as Teri Joseph, the fiery lawyer in the show the show on Showtime called Soul Food. Contractor was born at Mumbai in India she was raised in Nigeria from the time she was seven. She was already exposed to a lot of travel and cultures from a early age. She attended boarding school in London from seven to nine, after which her family relocated towards Toronto, Canada, where she spent the majority of her youth and early adulthood. Contractor was a brilliant student in Toronto and trained as a classical ballet dancer. She studied at the Etobicoke School of the Arts in Toronto, an arts school focused on theater and dance. At the age of 16 and after more than 10 years of dance Contractor realized she wanted to study acting professionally. After graduating high school, Contractor accepted a scholarship at the University of Toronto to pursue a dual major in sociology and psychology. In addition, she obtained an advanced degree in theatre. Contractor attended the highly-regarded Stratford Shakespeare Festival in Ontario, Canada, for Pericles. After a full year, she was given the lead part. The year 2002 was a great one for her. Canadian theater critics were awed by her performance in 92 performances of the play. She accepted the invitation to enroll in Stratford's conservatory, a program where only four men and eight women are able to take a 20 weeks crash course of classical theater.
